April is Autism Awareness Month

Just thought I would share a few links I ran across recently.  Since April is National Autism Awareness Month there has been quite a bit in the press and around the web. Here are some articles I thought you might find of interest:

  • Stress: The Killer on Trial.  This is a good article on stress and families coping with the autism spectrum. I especially liked, and thought it was appropriate for this group when the talked about the stress parents feel when raising a child that is on the spectrum and what the best way to relieve that stress was – to restore a parents well-being by “receiving care and compassion from others who are going through a similar experience.”
  • Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD).  I’ll add this one to the links section to the right. It has a wealth of information and resources for all things related to Autism.
  • Skills:  An interesting approach for… “an effective program for Autism recovery.”  Note that there are a set of tools for parents, professionals, organizations and schools.
  • TED Talks speech by David Brooks.  This may not be specifically related to this group, but I enjoyed it and wanted to share a link to it.  It discusses humans as social animals and has some very insightful comments about human behavior.
